I’m not sure if the Food Gods simply enjoy watching me break out into hives or not, but sometimes I have an allergic reaction to pre-made spice blends that I pick up in the store. I know that technically this isn’t a true garam masala, but the flavor is perfect for butter chicken and tikka masala recipes. (Or any recipe that calls for some yummy garam masala.)
The best part of my garam masala blend? Most of these spices are probably in your cabinet already! Not to mention, by making your own blends using spices that you can usually pick up for a dollar – in most grocery stores or Walmart – you’re saving money.
Time saving tip: Often I’ll double this blend and make it ahead, placing it in an empty spice bottle so it’s ready to go when I’m in the mood for butter chicken, tikka masala and curry.
